Natalie Nazer Cosby is a graduate-level intern pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Texas Woman’s University. She earned her undergraduate degree in International Cultural Studies with an emphasis in Intercultural Peacebuilding and Mediation from BYU-Hawaii. These studies allowed her to work with individuals, couples, and cultural groups on resolving underlying relational and cultural conflicts. Her professional work experience also includes working with struggling families and adolescents, women and children escaping domestic violence, and children with Autism.
As a counselor, Natalie adopts a client-centered, empathetic, and collaborative approach to helping clients process challenges, clarify authenticity, and achieve their goals. She believes in meeting every client with empathy and offers a grounding presence and a judgment-free space for processing in her therapy sessions. She operates from a Gestalt framework, using the present moment and somatic experiencing to explore how our environment, relationships, thoughts, and experiences impact our present health and well-being. This framework focuses on healing through a compassionate yet honest therapeutic relationship, heightened awareness of internal parts, mindfulness of the present moment, expressive experimentation, and embodiment of emotions. This approach pays special attention to the language of the body as a way of communicating what the brain may be unable to. Natalie also integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and expressive arts therapy techniques into her interventions.
Natalie has a particular passion for supporting women, new mothers, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ individuals through processing and healing experiences related to trauma, abuse, interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, life transitions, self-esteem issues, chronic stressors, depression, including prenatal and postpartum depression, anxiety, and identity development. Natalie feels honored and grateful for the opportunity to provide an inclusive space for people of all backgrounds to safely explore their dreams and aspirations, and navigate the roadblocks that may be keeping them from the confidence and empowerment needed to unearth their authentic selves.
