Makayla Perkins is a graduate-level intern pursuing her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of North Texas, where she also earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology. Before entering the counseling field, she held positions supporting struggling teens, college students and children with disabilities.
As a counselor, Makayla creates an inclusive, empowering space for adults, adolescents, and families as they navigate life’s challenges. She practices from an existential framework, exploring life’s deeper themes while honoring each person’s autonomy and capacity to author their own story. She brings a warm, grounded presence serving as an empathetic guide to help individuals explore their experiences, find meaning, and move toward more authentic living. She is skilled in helping people develop tools such as somatic and mindfulness-based practices to increase stability in their lives. Her goal is not to eliminate struggle, but to help people feel empowered in their choices and discover the strength within themselves to meet life’s uncertainties.
Makayla feels deeply honored to hold space for individuals and families seeking growth or a shift in perspective. She has a particular passion for supporting those exploring identity development, trauma recovery, spirituality, body image concerns, and perfectionistic tendencies. She understands the importance of affirming all parts of a person’s identity and provides a safe and affirming space for all of life’s joys and sorrows.
